{"revision":"c10276e953456835cdbb1f3a60d58ae1980be353","document":{"id":4390,"path":"build-workflows/workflow-studio/test-action.md","title":"Test an action","bundle":null,"doc_type":null,"release":"australia","body":"\n# Test an action\n\nTest an action before publishing it for other users.\n\n## Before you begin\n\n-   [Create an action](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/build-workflows/workflow-studio/create-action.md) and save it.\n-   Role required: flow\\_designer, flow\\_operator, action\\_designer, or admin.\n\n## About this task\n\nA user with the flow\\_designer role should always test actions on non-production instances containing relevant demonstration data because testing an action creates or changes records on the instance.\n\n## Procedure\n\n1.  Navigate to **All** > **Process Automation** > **Flow Designer**.\n\n2.  Click the **Actions** tab and select the action that you want to test.\n\n3.  Click **Test**.\n\n    The system displays the Test Action dialog box.\n\n4.  Fill in the fields for the action.\n\n    **Note:** Complete all mandatory fields in the Test Action dialog box.\n\n5.  Click **Run Test**.\n\n    **Note:** Select the **Run test in background** option to test an action asynchronously in the background.\n\n    If you select the **Run test in background** option, the execution details are displayed only after the execution is completed asynchronously in the background.\n\n\n## What to do next\n\nClick `Action has been executed. To view the action, click here` to view the action execution details.
