These variables can be slot-filled from NLU service provider predictions or provided outside of the scope of the topic.\n\n## Before you begin\n\nRole required: virtual\\_agent\\_admin or admin\n\n## About this task\n\nIf a custom control prompts a user for a date and the user mentioned a date in their initial utterance, you can capture that without re-prompting the user. To prompt the user when not slot-filled, use input controls.\n\nFor more information about NLU entities, see [Entities](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/intelligent-experiences/entities.md). For more information about system entities, see [NLU system entities](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/conversational-interfaces/virtual-agent/nlu-system-entities.md).\n\n## Procedure\n\n1. Navigate to **All** &gt; **Conversational Interfaces** &gt; **Assistant Designer**.\n\n2. Select the **Asset library** tab.\n\n3. In the Asset library, set the topic discovery switch to **NLU/Keyword**.\n\n4. Open a topic and view the **Flow** tab.\n\n5. In the sidebar, select the Variables tab, and select the **Input** icon \\[Omitted image \"icon-plus-clear.png\"\\].\n\n6. On the form, fill in the fields.\n\n<table id=\"table_ncp_hnp_frb\"><thead><tr><th>\n\nField\n\n</th><th>\n\nDescription\n\n</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>\n\nInput Types\n\n</td><td>\n\nData type of the input.
