ServiceNow determines authorization based on roles.\n\n## Procedure\n\n1.  Log in to the ServiceNow instance.\n\n2.  Navigate to **All** > **System Security** > **Users and Groups** > **User**.\n\n3.  Create a new user.\n\n    1.  Select **New**.\n\n    2.  Complete the required fields.\n\n    3.  Select **Save**.\n\n4.  Set a password for the user.\n\n5.  Assign roles to the user.\n\n    Assign these roles:\n\n    -   rest\\_api\\_explorer\n    -   admin\n    These roles provide read access to the following tables:\n\n    **Standard metadata tables:**\n\n    -   sys\\_app \\(System Applications\\)\n    -   sys\\_scope \\(Application Scopes\\)\n    -   sys\\_db\\_object \\(Tables\\)\n    -   sys\\_dictionary \\(Fields\\)\n    -   sys\\_db\\_view \\(Views\\)\n    -   sys\\_db\\_view\\_table \\(View Table Mappings\\)\n    -   sys\\_user \\(Users - for connection testing\\)\n    **Data Fabric tables:**\n\n    -   sn\\_df\\_connector \\(Data Fabric Connectors\\)\n    -   sys\\_df\\_connection\\_metadata \\(Connection Metadata\\)\n    -   sys\\_df\\_data\\_dictionary \\(Data Dictionary\\)\n    -   sys\\_df\\_connection\\_data \\(Connection Data\\)\n    -   sn\\_df\\_connection\\_attributes \\(Connection Attributes\\)\n    -   sys\\_variable\\_value \\(Variable Values\\)\n\n**Parent Topic:**[ServiceNow metadata collector](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/integrate-applications/servicenow-metadata-collector.md)\n\n"}}
