They are created automatically from reclamation rules or can be created manually.\n\n## Before you begin\n\nRole required: sam\\_admin or sam\\_user\n\n## About this task\n\nSoftware reclamation is integrated with Workflow and Client Software Distribution to automate the process of uninstalling software from devices and reclaiming software rights. However, you can also create a removal candidate manually. The following steps are for manually creating a removal candidate.\n\nStarting from the Australia release, the reclamation workflow can also be completed using the Software Reclamation Flow in the Flow Designer application with additional error handling functionality.\n\n## Procedure\n\n1.  Navigate to **Workspaces** &gt; **Software Asset Workspace** &gt; **License operations** &gt; **Reclamation** &gt; **Removal candidates**.\n\n2.  Select **New** to open the Create New Removal Candidate page.\n\n3.  On the Removal Candidate form, fill in the fields.\n\n<table id=\"table_fv5_1xh_wpb\"><thead><tr><th>\n\nField\n\n</th><th>\n\nDescription\n\n</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>\n\nNumber\n\n</td><td>\n\nUnique removal candidate number that is automatically generated.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nAssignment group\n\n</td><td>\n\nAutomatically set to the software managers group authorized to respond to removal candidates.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nAssigned to\n\n</td><td>\n\nPerson primarily responsible for working on this task.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nName\n\n</td><td>\n\nRemoval candidate name that is automatically generated. If no software installation is selected, a name isn't generated and the **Name** field is empty. If you add software installations and later decide to remove all of them, the **Name** field returns to being empty.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nDescription\n\n</td><td>\n\nDescription of why the task exists and what the user must do if they receive an approval.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nState\n\n</td><td>\n\nCurrent state of the removal candidate.-   Attention Required\n-   Ready\n-   Awaiting User\n-   Awaiting Approval\n-   Awaiting Revocation\n-   Closed Complete\n-   Closed Skipped\n-   Closed Canceled\n\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nOpened\n\n</td><td>\n\nDate the task was opened.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nClosed\n\n</td><td>\n\nDate the task was closed.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nJustification\n\n</td><td>\n\nJustification for becoming a removal candidate.-   Low Usage \\(default\\)\n-   Unallocated\n-   Unlicensed\n-   Restricted Software\n\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nApplies to\n\n</td><td>\n\nItem type to which the reclamation rule applies.-   Installed Software\n-   Subscription Software\n-   Engineering App License\n\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nSoftware installation\n\n</td><td>\n\nThe software installation being reclaimed.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nEngineering App License**Note:** Only appears if **Engineering App License** is selected in the **Applies to** list.\n\n</td><td>\n\nThe Engineering application license that you want to reclaim.\n\n</td></tr><tr><td>\n\nUser\n\n</td><td>\n\nName of the user assigned to the software installation. Select **Save**.\n\n    The removal candidate record is created. If you selected the **Bulk Reclamation** check box, the state of the removal candidate changes to **Attention Required**. Perform the following sub steps to add software installations before proceeding to the next step. If you didn't select the **Bulk Reclamation** check box, proceed to the next step.\n\n    1.  Select **New** in the Software Installation related list.\n\n    2.  Select a software installation and select **Save**.\n\n        The software installation you added appears in the Software Installations related list. The state of the removal candidate moves from **Attention Required** to **Ready** and a name is generated in the **Name** field. Continue to select **New** to add more software installations. If you decide to remove all software installations, then the state reverts back to **Attention Required** and the name no longer appears in the **Name** field. For the name to be generated and for the removal candidate to be in **Ready** state, at least one software installation must be selected in the removal candidate form.\n\n5.  Select **Reclaim**.\n\n    Once your software installation is reclaimed and removed from your system, the Software Installation column becomes empty. You can refer to the following fields on the Software installation related list to give you insights into the history of the reclaimed software installation.\n\n    -   Display name\n    -   Product\n    -   Publisher\n    -   Software model\n    You may select any action button on the form to further configure the removal candidate. Action buttons are dependent on the removal candidate's justification and state.\n\n    |Action|Description|\n    |------|-----------|\n    |Update|Update the removal candidate.|\n    |Resume Reclaim|Verify the completeness of data for processing.|\n    |Close Complete|Reclaim rights and close the removal candidate.|\n    |Close Skipped|Close the removal candidate without reclaiming rights.|\n    |Delete|Delete removal candidate.|\n\n\n**Parent Topic:**[Using Software Asset Workspace](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/it-asset-management/software-asset-management/using-sam-workspace.md)\n\n"}}
