This formatter can be used also on any table that extends Task.\n\n## Before you begin\n\nRole required: personalize\\_form\n\n## About this task\n\nTo add the parent breadcrumbs formatter to a form, configure the form and add **Parent Breadcrumbs** to the desired location. The breadcrumbs show only six levels of parents. If more levels exist, the breadcrumbs display an ellipsis \\('''...'''\\).\n\nThe **Parent** reference field also has to contain a value for the breadcrumbs to appear. Navigate to **All** > **System UI** > **Formatters**.\n\n2.  Select **Parent Breadcrumbs**.\n\n3.  Click **View UI Macro for this Formatter** to view or modify the underlying formatter.\n\n    By default, the breadcrumb uses the default display field, **gr.getDisplayValue\\(\\),** as the link in the breadcrumb. To customize this, add the following line, replacing the **fieldName** parameter with the desired field name \\(not the field label\\):\n\n    ```\n    pc.setLabelField(\"fieldName\")\n    ```\n\n    If a user points to a breadcrumb, the short description for that record appears as a hint by default. To display alternate hints for the breadcrumb, add the following line, replacing the **fieldName** parameter with the desired field name \\(not the field label\\):\n\n    ```\n    pc.setTitleField(\"fieldName\")\n    ```\n\n    Be sure to add these lines in the proper location, as shown in the following example:\n\n    ```\n    //parent crumb functions - script include \n    var pc = new ParentCrumbs(now_GR);\n    pc.setLabelField(\"short_description\");\n    \n    //override the default display field to be used for label\n    pc.setTitleField(\"number\");\n    \n    //override default short_description hover text \n    var crumbs = pc.getCrumbs();\n    ```\n\n    \\[Omitted image \"ParentBreadcrumbsCustomized.png\"\\] Alt text: Customized parent breadcrumb\n\n\n## Use the parent breadcrumbs formatter on non-Task tables\n\nThe parent breadcrumbs formatter can be used on non-Task tables as long as the table has a reference to itself through a field called **parent**.\n\n### Before you begin\n\nRole required: ui\\_macro\\_admin\n\n### About this task\n\nTo make the formatter available for a different table, duplicate the formatter used by the Task table:\n\n### Procedure\n\n1.  Navigate to **All** > **System UI** > **Formatters**.\n\n2.  Select **Parent Breadcrumbs**.\n\n3.  Set the **Table** field to the appropriate table.\n\n4.  Right-click the form header and choose **Insert**.\n\n5.  Add the new formatter to the appropriate form.\n\n\n"}}
