{"revision":"c10276e953456835cdbb1f3a60d58ae1980be353","document":{"id":39872,"path":"platform-administration/table-administration-and-data-management/c_DataLookupRules.md","title":"Data lookup rules","bundle":null,"doc_type":null,"release":"australia","body":"\n# Data lookup rules\n\nData lookup rules offer a generic way to change any field value, not just assignment fields.\n\n[Data lookup and record matching support](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ServiceNow/ServiceNowDocs/australia/markdown/australia/platform-administration/c_DataLookRecMatchSupport.md) offer the following improvements over the Assignment module:\n\n-   Ability to change any field value not just an assignment field\n-   More options to define when a rule runs:\n    -   On form change \\(Allows assignment rules to apply to unsaved changes on a form\\)\n    -   On record insert\n    -   On record update\n-   Option to replace existing values \\(including default values\\)\n\n**Note:** You can define data lookup and Assignment rules at the same time.
